Cemetery Manager (CLOSED)

Woodland Cemetery is in need of a Cemetery Manager.  This role has full oversight of all cemetery operations and reports to the Rector and Wardens of St. Paul’s Cathedral, London, Ontario.

Duties & Responsibilities

 Staff

  • Lead the overall daily activities of the cemetery and crematorium.
  • Lead, train and develop employees, ensuring ongoing performance standards and annual reviews are documented.
  • Ensure all cemetery employees provide high quality customer service to clients.
  • Ensure compliance with Personnel and Health and Safety Policies within the organization.
  • Writes policies for Health and Safety, Operations, Personnel and Job Descriptions for review by all applicable bodies.

 Financial

  • Reports to the Cemetery Board each month or as required.
  • Bring forward Financial, Cemetery and Crematorium reports as well as news within the industry.
  • Prepare annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Development of actions plans to achieve financial objectives.
  • Ensure monthly financial and YTD financial statement preparation.

Regulatory

  • Develop and maintain ongoing industry relationships with funeral directors and active membership in the OACFP (Ontario Association of Cemeteries and Funeral Professionals).
  • Ensure compliance to all cemetery and crematorium regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Understand the current Provincial Cemeteries Act as well as Provincial Trust Acts and Environmental Laws that apply to the Cemetery and Crematorium
  • Completes reports and filing for Ministry of Government Services for Pre-Planned Trust Funds, Cemetery Owner Information Reports, Licensing Forms and Accounting of Care and Maintenance and Monument Care Funds.
  • Works with both independent and government auditors in the completion of year end audits for the Cathedral and Ministry of Government Services Cemeteries Branch.
  • Ensures all aspects of the operation both crematorium and cemetery complies with the License to operate each.

 Sales & Marketing

  • Arbitrates questions and complaints of interment right holders, families, and board members.
  • Sells graves, cremation lots and niches to the public.  Maximizes the sale of cemetery products.
  • Provide trend & variance analysis reports, with appropriate commentary and action.
  • Develop yearly price lists for services and products for Corporation and Board.
  • Develops advertising pamphlets, websites and job advertisements for the organization.
  • Develops annual sales and marketing plans.

Qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary education or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in sales/sales management, general office and operations administration in the cemetery and/or funeral services industry.
  • Competent with computer applications including: Windows, Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal and organization skills.
  • Customer service oriented.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Team builder.
  • Encourage change and empowerment.
  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of the FBCSA (Funeral Burial and Cremation Services Act).

Compensation

  • Salary: $52K to 65K; commensurate with experience
  • Benefits: Medical and Dental
  • Vacation: 2 weeks
